Jensen Ackles (Dean) and Jared Padalecki (Sam) have been hinting that Supernatural isn't quite over yet. Fans are going nuts. SPOILERS AHEAD (if you haven't watched Season 15, you may not want to read on.)
Since it ended with Season 15 and both brothers dead, people have wanted a revival. Well, hold on to your seats. It might just be coming your way. I for one cannot wait. The ending to Supernatural disappointed me. They killed off Dean during a run-of-the-mill hunt. After he had been killed in such interesting and spectacular ways like being blown away, hit by a car, and killed by an angel with a grudge, we were expecting a better ending for him.
Honestly, I don't think it should have been Dean that died. Sam fans are going to hate me for saying this, but I think it would have made more since for him to go than Dean. Sam used to want a normal life, but he'd changed his mind over the years. He was a hunter and going to stay that way. It was Dean who longed for a real family. He got a taste of it when Sam was in Hell, but as soon as Sam returned, things changed for Dean. He couldn't have a normal life anymore.
Dean had been looking out for his younger brother since their father handed Sam to Dean as a baby and told him to take him outside. The house was on fire. So Dean ran out the door with Sam and has been protecting him ever since. Sam doesn't seem to appreciate it or understand it.
Of course, Dean wasn't the perfect brother. We get glimpses of him leaving Sam in the motel room alone while he plays video games, and he used to leave him at a game zone type place infested with clowns. But Dean does take his job to protect Sammy very seriously. We see that when Sam dies at the end of season 2. Dean weeps over his brother's dead body and accuses himself of screwing up the one job that he had to do: take care of Sam. Keep him alive.
If one brother has to die while the other goes on without him, I think it should be Sam. Dean would be free to live his life if Sam wasn't around and he didn't have to protect him. He could have returned to Lisa and Ben. Maybe they could have had children.
Of course, we have no way of knowing what a reboot of the show would mean. Personally, I always thought they should die, go to heaven, and meet up with their father. John Winchester throws a gun into the trunk of his old car (Dean's current ride) and says, "We have work to do."
I would like it if they ended it with the boy continuing the hunt in some way.
