Sad News: Billy Miller Died on Friday

I'm not doing Top Ten Tuesday today because I am so upset at the passing of Billy Miller. If you didn't know him, he was on Y&R for awhile as Billy Abbott and on GH as Jason Morgan/Drew Cain. He did such a great job on there, but they let him go. After giving him the part of Jason Morgan, they asked the original actor Steve Burton to return to the role. That left Billy hanging. He said it was okay because they offered to let him help create his new character, but they never went anywhere with it. They stuck him behind a desk so he was just playing Billy Abbott again. Worse yet, they took away his on-screen wife Sam McCall even though both actors thought they should stay in a relationship. They had her throw him over for Jason. Eventually, they put him in an elevator never to be seen again. The characters mention he died in a plane crash, but no one seems to give a crap! This upset me so much that I had trouble watching the show after that.

Now they have another actor in the role of Drew Cain, and they had no problem at all giving him a lover and a storyline. That just burns me. No one on there seemed to care when Drew Cain supposedly died, but when he resurfaces with a new actor playing him, these same characters are gushing over him and acting like they care. Oh please. Eye-roll.

Billy Miller's mother sent out a statement to let everyone know that her son was in a deep depression and couldn't go on. That is so terribly sad. If someone with a great career, money, and tons of people that loved him couldn't go on, what about the rest of us?

Top Ten Worst Moms on TV

9/12/2023

Now these are my top ten personal worst moms list. I haven't seen every show out there. So if I missed one or forgot somebody, let me know. These are the ten bad moms to pop into my mind first. What do you think?

1. Peggy Biggs: This is Mike's mom from Mike & Molly. If you've never seen the show, she is a cranky, manipulative shrew. She hates Molly and doesn't try to pretend that she doesn't. In fact, I think she'd prefer it if her son lived with her forever and grew old without finding love. Peggy acts like she loves her dog more than her son. That's pretty funny.

2. Marie Barone: from Everybody Loves Raymond, this is Ray's mom. She lives across the street from Ray and his wife Debra. This location makes perfect sense because she likes to drop in whenever she wants. When Debra wants to make her husband his favorite dinner from childhood, Marie gives her the recipe. She even gives Debra the spices to make it. Of course, she has given her one wrong spice on purpose and put a fake label over the top. Marie is a genius when it comes to keeping her family in line and getting what she wants.

3. Peggy Bundy: This Peggy is on Married with Children. She has no respect for her husband and trades barbs with him in front of the kids. They seem to hate each other. I don't think she has much love for her kids either.

4. Evelyn Harper: This mom is on Two and a Half Men. She is good at twisting the knife of guilt when it comes to her two children. Her favorite thing is telling her sons what disappointments they are to her and how they ruined her figure and her life. She manipulates them into doing things they don't want. Money seems to be the number one thing on her mind.

5. Dr. Beverly Hofstader: She drops in once in a while to insult her son Leonard. I think this woman only had children so she could experiment on them and write books. She's a child psychologist and wrote the best selling "Needy Baby, Greedy Baby." LOL. Unlike some of the other mothers on this list, she always makes me laugh.

6. Frankie Heck: Some people might be surprised to see this one on the list because they love The Middle and think she's a good mom. I don't, and here's why. Frankie lies to her children more often that she tells the truth. She is delusional and comes up with crazy plans that will never work. When she finds a good parenting strategy, she quickly abandons it because she's tired. She also steals from work, and her entire family knows about it. Her kids will probably go to prison someday for stealing or killing someone during a road rage accident. If this was real life, Frankie would already be in jail for at least one of those things.

I could probably write a whole blog post on this woman and the horrible things she does. She chased her son across the yard and knocked him down because she didn't like the socks he was wearing. (He was 18 and going to graduation) She threatens a small child and endangers countless others through the series. Enough said. She's horrible and maybe I will write a whole blog post about her soon.

7. Roseanne: I saw lists of TV bad moms and Roseann's mother is on the list, but she isn't. I used to think her parenting style was funny. As an adult, I don't. Why? Because she leans towards being funny rather than being a good mom. She lets her kids do pretty much what they want when they're little. Then she wonders why they're so rebellious when they are adults.

8. Ellis Grey: This is the MC's mom, and we see her in flashbacks. She was a horrible mother. She shamed Meredith and griped at her and told Meredith that she was a disappointment to her. Ellis pushed Meredith to 'be great' and not ordinary. Loved it when McDreamy stood up for Meredith and told her mother that she IS extraordinary.

9. Beverly Goldberg: Almost forgot this one. She was the mom on The Goldbergs. This woman is so overbearing. She tries to control every single aspect of her children's lives... and succeeds most of the time. If they won't do what she wants, she writes them 18 page letters with fake tears on them.

10. This last one will have to be a shared one because there are SO many terrible TV moms, and I've run out of numbers. How about both moms on the show Mom? They are both alcoholics/drug addicts who put their children through hell. The main character hates her mother for how she raised her, but she has done the same thing to her children. She doesn't want to forgive her mom and constantly needles her for her bad choices. But then she acts shocked and hurt when her daughter treats her that way.

Anyway, that is my list. Join me for another Top Ten Tuesday next week.

Top Ten Disaster Movies

9/5/2023

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday!

I don't know about you, but I love, Love, LOVE disaster movies. To me, a disaster movie can be a natural disaster, a monster tearing up the town, or people on a dangerous quest. Here are my top ten favorites in different categories.

1. Favorite Meteor Disaster: DEEP IMPACT. This movie has a lot going for it. There are several characters with their own stories going on. We have a pushy reporter, a teenager in love, and POTUS, among others. I loved following them and seeing who would live and who would die. It's usually easy for me to figure this out ahead of time, but not in this movie.
And the special effects were INCREDIBLE!! Do yourself a favor if you watch it and bring some tissues. It makes me cry every time.
Runner Up: Armageddon

2. Favorite Alien Disaster: INDEPENDENCE DAY. I can watch this again and again. SO good. Once again we follow a lot of characters with their own personal stories. Love Will Smith as a pilot fighting aliens, but Jeff Goldsworthy was my favorite. He played a funny 'cable guy.' LOL.
And let's not forget Randy Quaid as the nutty guy insisting he was abducted by aliens years ago.
There are just too many great characters in this movie. If you haven't watched it, do it. You'll thank me later.
The special effects are unbelievable. We get to see NY, LA, and the White House blown to bits.
Runner Up: Signs

3. Favorite Shark Disaster: THE MEG. I wasn't sure about this one, because I also really loved Deep Blue Sea. I went back and forth. What puts The Meg out there in the lead for me? There is a romance between the muscular male lead and the brilliant female lead. The woman's little daughter is a scene-stealer, for sure.
Also loved seeing Dwight from The Office as an eccentric billionaire.
Runner Up: Deep Blue Sea

4. Favorite Ocean Cruise Disaster: POSEIDON. I know, I know. You probably expected to hear me say Titanic. I thought about it, but Titanic spent SO much time showing off the ship. It took forever to get to the disaster.
The Poseidon has some great characters including the former mayor of NY City (played by Kurt Russell) and a sexy gambler (played by Josh Lucas) and a cute young couple. She is Russell's daughter and is hiding the fact she is engaged to her young man.
I just love watching people crawl through vents filling with water for some reason. I know, weird, huh?
Runner Up: Titanic

5. Favorite Monster Disaster: CLOVERFIELD. This is one of the most unique and awesome movies I have ever seen. They shoot the whole thing from the perspective of someone with a video camera. The characters are two brothers, their girlfriends, and closest friends at a party when the movie begins. A Godzilla-like monster attacks the city. Watching them try to get out of the city is so much fun.
Special effects are incredible.
Runner Up: Cloverfield Lane

6. Favorite Tornado Disaster: TWISTER. I first saw this in the theater. When we went inside, the skies were clear. When we came out, we were under a tornado watch. I kept expecting to see a twister coming at us through the darkness. That was scary, but the movie was great. I enjoyed it because of the relationship between the two leads. They are divorced. Well, he is trying to get a divorce, but she doesn't want to sign the papers. She's stalling. Before he knows it, he is chasing tornadoes with them.
Runner Up: Into the Storm

7. Favorite Climate Change Disaster: The Day After Tomorrow. This is a good one. It's a little preachy, but I enjoyed watching Dennis Quaid doing whatever he had to do to save his son who is trapped in NY City.
Runner Up: I don't have one for this category.

8. Favorite World Ending Disaster: 2012. Wow! Hard to believe it 2012 was so long ago. I remember watching this for the first time and wondering what the future would hold. John Cusack is in it, I think. Always love movies with him. His little girl on here is a cute scene-stealer. The movie has funny moments and some awesome special effects.
Runner Up: The Core

9. Favorite Earthquake Disaster: San Andreas. It doesn't get any better than watching Dwayne The Rock Johnson rescuing people. In this one, he is trying to get to San Francisco to save his daughter. And the fact he has his ex-wife with him makes this movie a lot of fun.
Runner Up: Earthquake

10. Favorite Zombie Disaster: World War Z. I don't like zombies, but this was good. Hey, Brad Pitt is in it. That alone made it worth watching.

Did I miss any awesome disaster movies that you love? Let me know in the comments.

My superpower? I can figure out what's going to happen in a movie/show sometimes before opening credits. My record was the time I guessed the surprise ending by just watching the scenes. Sadly, my friends don't appreciate my superpower.
